Security and privacy

Children’s records deserve serious protection.

Here is how Belloft keeps your school’s records private and safe, in plain words.

A database of your own

Every school has its own separate database. Your records are never mixed with another school’s, and one school can never see another.

Encrypted when stored

Messages, absence-note reasons, health notes and behaviour details are encrypted in the database, with a key unique to your school.

Strong sign-in

Passwords are never stored, only a one-way fingerprint of them. Two-step sign-in adds a code from the phone, and accounts lock after repeated wrong passwords.

Each person sees only their part

Staff see what their job title allows. Parents see only their own children. Students see only their own work.

Backed up every night

Nightly backups go to storage your school chooses and owns, so your records are never held hostage, by us or anyone else.

Messages built against scams

Links in messages are never clickable and attachments are not allowed, so a fake message can’t trick a parent into a fake payment page.

Documents that can’t be faked

Receipts, report cards and letters carry a code that anyone can check against your school’s real records.

Nigeria Data Protection Act

Belloft is run in line with the NDPA 2023. Your school is in charge of its data; we process it only to provide the service, under a written agreement.

Being honest about messages

Encrypted when stored, not end to end.

We tell you this plainly because it matters. Messages are encrypted in the database, but they are not end-to-end encrypted like WhatsApp. That is deliberate: for safeguarding, a teacher can share a conversation with the principal, and a school can choose to let its leadership see all messages. Everyone should write knowing that.

Where your records live

In secure data centres in Frankfurt.

School records are stored in data centres in the European Union, which has some of the strongest data protection rules in the world. Photos, backups and archives go to the storage your school chooses. The details are in our Privacy Policy and Data Processing Agreement.

Questions about how we protect your school?

Ask us anything. We would rather explain in detail than have you guess.
